It was a tough start.......

Second day was easier. Flat ground, a nice change from climbing mountains. It is a beautiful area close to the sea.

Everyone kept warning me from riding between Ilan and Hualian so in the end I listened their advice and took the train in the evening.

Distance: 110 km
Max speed: 54.1 km/h
Average speed: 26 km/h
Terrain: Flat in waves and a mountain last 15 km
With two typhoons coming in I decided to continue alone. I went up early and decided to reach Taidong before lunchtime.

Reaching Taidong after a tough ride, although with the wind in my back, I was completely exhausted. I spent the afternoon sleeping and resting, and the evening having barbecue with a taiwanese bike club in the same hotel. With the typhoons approaching I couldnt do anything else than give up and take train bike to Taipei.

View after just crossing the mountains that along the coast south of Hualien. The valley runs all the way from down to Taidong.
